Naruto Uzumaki is a 12-year-old ninja living in the Hidden Leaf Village, where he faces constant ridicule from the villagers. His desperate need for recognition leads him to deface the monument of the four Hokage leaders, seeking a way to stand out. His teacher, Iruka Umino, scolds him for vandalizing the statues but later learns of Naruto’s dream to become the Hokage – the village’s leader – in hopes of gaining the respect he craves.
The following day, Naruto is on the verge of failing his graduation from the Ninja Academy due to a failed clone jutsu. Taking advantage of Naruto’s desire to prove himself, an academy teacher named Mizuki tricks him into stealing a forbidden scroll containing powerful ninjutsu secrets from the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. That night, as Naruto is about to be attacked by Mizuki, Iruka intervenes and saves him. Mizuki then reveals to Naruto that he is the host of the Nine Tails, a powerful demon fox that destroyed the village 12 years ago, and that this is why the villagers despise him. Mizuki also mentions that Iruka’s parents were killed by the Nine Tails.
However, Iruka, despite his past pain, protects Naruto, revealing they have shared experiences and a deeper connection. Inspired by Iruka’s support, Naruto uses the Shadow Clone jutsu from the scroll to defeat Mizuki, beginning his journey toward becoming the Hokage.
